Stimulus and Response
- By Rudy Takala
In the midst of the Republican Party's highly publicized denials of an internal crisis, the reasons for their predicament have been lost. The debate, rather than centering on what happened and what is to be done, has become a public relations campaign of who's going to win the next election.
The situation could still have a favorable outcome – if the establishment elite begin to truthfully acknowledge what's wrong and how to fix it, rather than trying to manipulate voters through contrived imagery and denial.
The problem is based upon two flaws that are becoming dangerously fundamental to the structure of the party. The first is elitism – too many of the party's top officials don't care about adhering to the wishes of their constituents. They simply want to increase their own power and prestige. Rather than seeking "citizen legislators," they'd prefer to run the party themselves. They've established a seamless system of bureaucracies and committees, over which they have full control............

Just to comment on Rudys Column.
As a 38 yr old Republican, you strike me as borderline creepy.
The GOP rules the roost right now because I beleive that the candidates that we have elected appeal to us intellectually and socially.
I'm not sure which handbook you are judging the GOP by,but it is my opinion, and I think many agree, that were we to follow a given set of rules, we would be as laughable as the Dem party is right now..
Personally..
I don't believe in the Biblical God,I am pro-morning after pill,Tax breaks for small business, unfettered Stem-Cell research, resources dedicated towards establishing colonies on other moons and planets, and a Military prepared to kick the teeth out of anyone at anytime..
Don't write off a persons worth as a candidate, someone taking the time and dealing with the shit-sandwich that is a 'campaign' because of their stance on abortion.
The Party must accept that a Fetus is not a human until it has developed gills and a tail(oddly enough)and contain your ploclivity
to simplify a very complex issue.
I define people that do not think their ideas through to their possible exponential ends as 'Liberals'.
Do not make the abortion issue the broken crutch that the left walks upon...lets leave the 'Right' crutch where it belongs.
In the closet.
